Attach Your Compass to Your Receiver – Open ARDF

WB8WFK Compass Holder

Jerry Boyd WB8WFK has designed a 3D compass platform for the RigExpert® FoxRex 3500 ARDF Receiver using ABS plastic. He generated the STL CAD files using SketchUp and used 3D Hubs, an online 3D printing service, to order the finished product. The holder fits the Silva Starter 1-2-3  model compass.

You can obtain the STL CAD file from this folder:

WB8WFK reports that the 3D hub print service worked well and that the project was fabricated on a printer with 200-micron resolution. It took about 40 minutes to create the model, then after sending it to 3D Hubs, the holder arrived in less than a week. There was an option to print in aluminum but it was cost prohibitive: ~$200.

The black ABS plastic used for the compass holder matches the receiver nicely.
The cost for ABS plastic using 3D Hubs was as follows:

$4 setup(NRE)
$5.75 for printing
$7.85 shipping
Total $17.61

If you have a 3D printer this project would be very cheap to print at home.
